![]() Phil Mellon, new chairman of the Torbay Cachment Group, with newly elected secretary Pauline Irving. Thanks to Andrew Marshall for providing consistent leadership through the long haul of catchment planning with the major project, Watershed Torbay. Thanks also to Dale Holley who has stepped down as secretary, to Bob Gretton who has provided on ground project management through Green Skills, and to Julie Pech who is taking maternity leave. Watershed Torbay has taken four years and a lot of effort to result in both work on the ground and a document outlining what needs to be done to make a bigger difference to the way land is managed in the catchment. I am pleased to take on the role of chair and am keen that people ring me if they want to discuss issues in the catchment and what they can do to help out, because it is going to take all of us doing our bit to see a noticeable difference. The catchment restoration plan is finally finished and we have $900 000 to use over three years to really get the ball rolling with on ground works. The Launch for the plan is the afternoon of 6 November at Woodbury Boston school. Come along so you are in on the picture! The money we have in hand will be spent on supporting fencing, revegetation, stock crossings, |
perennial pasture establishment, support for better fertiliser practices, training in how to deal with acid sulphate soils and many other practical projects. We will also be appointing a full time catchment coordinator very soon. Making sure this money is well spent is a big job for the Torbay Catchment Group supported by the Department of Environment and other agencies. We need you to be an active member on your property, on the catchment group and in any other way you can. Regards - Phil Mellon
Come along at 2.30 pm Sunday afternoon 6 November for the party to mark the launch of the Torbay catchment restoration plan and completion of the four year Watershed Torbay project. Meet the new catchment coordinator who will be working for you over the coming three years, the on ground projects coordinator and the newly elected Torbay Catchment Group committee. Copies of the restoration plan summary will be available on the day for you to take home. There will be a sumptuous afternoon tea and childcare will be available.
