Catchment group chair, Phil Mellon, inspecting a fencing project assisted through the group. Well done everyone for being part of a prize winning catchment! - The catchment group meetings have been giving us plenty to think about this past year. We heard about the proposal for a woodchip fired power station close to the woodchip mill which is in our catchment. Also this newsletter gives a short piece on the presentation we heard at the May meeting from the company Lignor who are planning a plant to turn out structural grade compressed wood products from bluegum. Most recently, Sylvia Leighton from the Land for Wildlife showed us the quality and extent of vegetation corridors in our catchment and the surprising range of plants and animals in our native vegetation. As you can see the catchment meetings are now set up to provide information on different topics to all landholders. The next meeting is a BBQ followed by the AGM which is always good for a catch up with people and on the work done. In between the general meetings the catchment group executive meets to make sure the money to implement the restoration plan is going to the right places. If you want to get more involved in steering the restoration plan and lending a hand for the catchment put your name into the ring at the AGM. You can stand as a newcomer, learn the ropes and then take up a more active role when you are ready. All executive meetings are also open to catchment group members, the more the merrier! So come on down. |
There continues to be money to help landholders with fencing waterways, wetlands and native vegetation, with plantings and help with putting in perennial pastures- if you haven't taken it up - why not go for it? Talk to Steve 9841 0120 or Karen 9841 0128 who will come out and visit. This is a great place to live - it's worth keeping it that way and there is plenty we can do. Hope to see you at the BBQ and AGM. Regards Phil Mellon
"We were up against some stiff competition including a large catchment group who sends out its newsletter to 74,000 landholders! We were picked because of the way we work together, the relationships we have built between agencies, community groups and landholders. I felt proud to be there representing our community. The prize money will go back into work in the catchment." said Andrew. |
