![]() We are very sorry to be losing Kevin Hopkinson; he has been employed by the Catchment on a part time basis for the last two years as Project Manager for the Envirofund monies. He is a wonderful communicator and has been responsible for a large uptake of funding by landholders for protection and revegetation of waterways and wetlands within our catchment. We wish Kevin all the best in his new contract. We look forward to working with Bob Gretton who will be taking over this work. Dave Rushton did an excellent job as co-coordinator for Watershed Torbay for a year whilst Julie Pech was on maternity leave. Dave's now returned to Perth and we welcome Julie back - she's keeping us on our toes as much as ever! We live in a unique and wonderful part of the world; we are all doing our best to maintain and improve the Torbay Catchment so that it's condition is in a better state to hand on to the next generation. For the past three years the Torbay Catchment Group has worked very hard on waterways fencing, revegetation, weed control and better fertilizer use. We have endeavored to make sure that good information is available to everyone in the community to enable us to maximize returns both for ourselves and our environment. The four year Watershed Torbay project has less |
than a year to run. Over the next three months the Watershed Torbay Steering committee will be finishing the draft action plan to tackle issues we all care about particularly the algal blooms and water quality of our lakes, inlets and waterways. We will be applying for significant financial support so that we can do more work in the catchment in the near future. Please come along to our next meeting and have your say so that you too have been involved in part of the decision making. The next Catchment Group meeting is WED 1st SEPEMBER, 7.30 pm at the ELLEKER HALL. The next Watershed Torbay steering committee meeting is Wed 11th August also at Elleker Hall 7.30pm.
It is really good to see some landholders new to
the scheme taking up funding for rehabilitation of
creek lines. Well done to everybody who has been
doing invaluable landcare work! Also many thanks
to the Green Skills Green Corps teams for all their
sterling work in the catchment.
![]() So far this year funding has been provided to help with 13 km of waterways fencing, planting of 5,800 seedlings, and installing 6 stock crossings and 3 water points . There is still $10,951 left to allocate. Call Bob Gretton at Green Skills 9848 1019 if you are interested in support for your work. |
