held 24th November 1999

Attendance:

Business arising:

Letter to City of Albany re Watsonia - reply from City.

No more response to available streamlining funds.

Report on newsletter delivery.

Mark Taylor - re aerial spraying North Marbellup. Discussion on guidelines. Hugh Smith moved we write to CALM and City of Albany to point out we have noted that aerial and ground spraying of timber plantations is taking place in the proximity of waterways and operators are urged to abide by manufacturers guidelines. Seconded Andrew Marshall.

Graphic design of letterhead - good. Diane Evers reported on award to kids at Woodbury Boston Environmental School. The school is keen for future involvement in activities in the catchment.

Foreshore survey:

Jodie Oates gave a talk with displays. One overhead on watercourses and drainage systems looking at drain design with a view to improving designs. Foreshore means all stream edges.

Field day program 18th January:

To include: look at bluegum plantations in relation to the catchment; watsonia spraying - Lower Denmark Road; housing in lower catchment, on Grasmere Road. Discussion of addendums to titles (covenants). Bush on Marshall Road. Meeting at lunchtime. Trip to be advertised.

Other business:

Denmark-Walpole Weeds Action Group bus tour Friday 26th November

Landcare meeting, Narrikup; Monday 29th November. Topics: Proposed legislative changes to Landcare groups; Future directions for Landcare in the Wilson Inlet Catchment Area.

Leaflet to be distributed on algae bloom and monitoring trials in Marbellup Brook and Lake Powell. Media release suggested on the research. Bloom showing up already.

Weeds:

Watsonia mapping - to be transferred to catchment map.
Contact Max Hordacre, Main Roads to talk on roadside vegetation.
Westrail to be contacted re watsonia on railway reserve.
Julie Pech and Andrew Marshall to prepare detailed proposal and costing submission to City of Albany re road reserve spraying, prior to April.
John Blaney Murphy raised Lotteries Commission for source of funds. Also Gordon Reid Foundation.
Hugh Smith to contact Shire of Plantagenet re their watsonia control.
