Minutes of the Torbay Catchment Group Meeting

  1. MEETING OPENED by Vice-President Andrew Marshall

  2. CONFIRMATION OF PREVIOUS MINUTES:

    Minutes of the previous meeting were moved as accepted, seconded by Phillip Marshall, carried.

  5. GENERAL BUSINESS:

    5.1 Restoration Plan launch - Feedback

    All positive responses to the day and all agreed that it was a success. Louise will pursue the distribution of the remaining Torbay Catchment Group Restoration Plan booklets to relevant areas.

    5.2 Appointment of Steve May - Wilson Inlet Catchment Plan & Torbay

    Steve introduced himself to the meeting and outlined his hopes for the area. He outlined his previous experiences in the Bannister Creek Catchment Group and other metropolitan catchment areas. He outlined his challenges for the next few weeks as:

    5.3 Community reporting on the Torbay inlet bar openings, water levels - how consistently?

    The meeting discussed posting this information on an interactive website also the need to establish the contact people that the water corporation currently contact for this information and the need to update.
    Action: Adrian will look into this

    5.4 Information exchange session on the proposed Catchment Protection Plan

    Due to the small nature of the current meeting Chris Gunby tabled information sheets.

    Louise Duxbury discussed a letter she received from the Department of Agriculture after the release of the Restoration Plan outlining a current study being carried out by their department ie the levels in acid sulphate soils which has the same outcomes as those proposed by the Restoration Plan. They will contribute their results with the TCG.

    John Blaney-Murphey gave an update on the Friends of Lake Powell re the proposal to establish a layby at Lake Powell. A site has been selected by the City of Albany but the site has other factors to consider. He will keep us updated.

    John also commented on the success of the Denmark conference.

    Steve May tabled a Watershed Torbay Compendium for our information.

    Steve Janicke gave an update on the weed management program with the City of Albany. A full update will be presented at a meeting in the new year.
