MEETING

  1. Welcome, attendance and apologies:

    The Chairperson, Phil Mellon welcomed those present to the meeting at 1930

    Present: Terri Harwood, Graeme Heighton, Paul Beattie, Adrienne Beattie, Phillip Marshall, Andrew Marshall, Pip Tillbrook, Kevin Graham, Sandra Swain, Elizabeth Nation, Rod Nation, Anne Karyn, Lesley Hart, Maurice McCormick, Kristy Holloway, Anita Davis, Sally Pell, Indra Geidans, Sheryn Prior and Jan Stanley

    Apologies: Keith Smith, Brett Trouchet, Des Wolfe and Arthur Davis

    Presentations: Jan Stanley outlined the ways the Catchment Group could contribute to the education of TAFE students who are studying qualifications which prepare people for employment in Land and Water Management. The group can offer a scholarship or donate money for a student award.

    Sheryn Prior presented the project in which SCNRM, Greencorps and the Elleker Progress Association are partnered. Volunteers are sort to assist on October 18 and 25. Contact either Sheryn at SCNRM or Paul Beattie, President of the Elleker Progress Assoc. The project is involved in activities to protect and regenerate the dunes around Torbay Inlet

    Minutes of the previous Meetings were circulated prior to the meeting. There were no matters arising

  3. Correspondence and matters arising:

    3.1 Inwards

    3.1.1 The Environment and Conservation News is now available online at www.dec.wa.gov.au/ecn or send an email with the subject line 'subscribe' to

    3.1.2 Email communication from Wendy Coffey outlining the positive effects on their bandicoot population of her fencing project which was part funded by our fencing allocation from SCNRM. This was also enhanced by their fox baiting endeavours.

    3.2 Outwards

    3.2.1 Letter to City of Albany requesting the Rail Trail be placed on their Trails Master Plan.

    The Treasurer, Graeme Heighton proposed the meeting accept the Finance Report and it was seconded by Maurice McCormick

  5. Staff report

    Lesley tabled her report and explained points from it.

  6. General Business:

    6.1 Membership Officer Position:
    Lesley proposed that we appoint a member to the position of Memebrship officer to follow up membership enquiries, provide receipts and compile and keep up to date the group's Membership List and contact details. It was suggested it could be a responsibility of one of the committee members.

    6.2 Twinning Project update:
    Albany Primary school completed their second catchment trip on 25/6/09. The group is sponsoring Anne Poelina from Jarlmadangah to attend the Riverfoundation Conference in September.

    Action: Terri to check when DVD will be ready to send. Terri and Lesley to send requested report to Riverfoundation

    6.3 Rail Trail progress:
    Awaiting notice from Lotterywest re submission for funding to commence next stage. Members present at the meeting expressed that they were keen to make a start by renovating the section in the vicinity of Torbay Hall. It was felt we needed to wait to determine progress of submission, progress of Mundra Biddi project and permissions from land interests and land holders.

    Action: Pip Tillbrook and Phil Mellon to identify whose permission would be sort for this activity. Members asked to contact Pip if they were keen to volunteer their time.

As there was no other business, the Chairperson, Phil Mellon, invited all current and potential members to the Annual General Meeting which will be preceded by a barbecue at 6.30 pm on September 16th.

The chair closed the meeting at 2130.
